Legendary Entertainment and Capcom are moving forward with their new live-action "Street Fighter" film, set for release on March 20, 2026, according to a recent update from Sony Pictures.
Despite this progress, the film has encountered significant challenges, notably losing directors Danny and Michael Philippou due to scheduling conflicts.
Although Sony confirmed the release date, details about the movie’s script, cast, and new directorial leadership remain undisclosed.
The project, co-developed by Legendary and Capcom, aims to surpass the notoriously poor reputation of previous live-action adaptations.
This includes the infamous 1994 movie featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, and the 2009 film "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li," both of which were critically panned.
As the movie industry continues to capitalize on video game adaptations, several other projects are also underway.
Among these are a sequel to "Uncharted" and another "Mortal Kombat" film expected to release in 2025.
